Why We Need Safe Spaces Online

The internet has been around in some form since Jan 1st 1983… that’s a lot of years! In that time it’s grown into a huge beast of a thing – it’s pretty much changed the way we do everything in our lives. We can talk to people across the world in an instant, order everything we could possibly want from the comfort of our sofas, find new bands, shows and find people that represent your community. When you’re doomsday scrolling it can feel like you’ve seen everything already, the same creators, same copycat videos or just nothing new is coming up. It can be exciting when you stumble across something new, you feel like you’ve unlocked a key to a new area made just for you.

Covid was such a hard time for all of us, separated from loved ones, friends and just everything that made us happy! During all the lockdowns, our online community doubled in size! Now we have a huge, active and engaged community that is free, non judgemental and offers everything from AMA’s with influencers, to confidential advice and awesome chats with new friends. It’s not hard to see why – Ditch the Label’s community members love it so much because you can talk about anything you like. It’s a safe space to talk about anything, from your mental health, struggling to come out, to finding your identity or talking about your favourite shows and music. It’s a place where you can be yourself, get confidential support and talk to one of our trained support mentors.

Life can be really challenging sometimes and it can be hard to know where to turn to. We have a judgement free space where you can talk to like minded people. We have tribes where you can create and discuss certain topics, or you can join the hundreds of other tribes  that people love. Tribes are places where you can talk about anything! From ideas for stories to finding your identity, to favourite films or your love of animals – there’s something for everyone.

It’s easy for older generations to forget what it’s like to grow up, and it’s particularly hard for them to understand what it’s like in the online world. Certain ages are really out of touch, and don’t think that you’re as digitally savvy as you are. It can be frustrating, and we don’t blame you for feeling frustrated. The adults in your life are just concerned for your safety. One of the good things about Ditch the Label’s community is that you will find a place to express yourself in a safe way, surrounded by people who want to support you in your journey.

You can create your own username, avatar and more – you just need to sign up! We don’t ever ask for your personal details or real names so you can be free to be who you truly are without worrying how people perceive you. Sometimes it can feel like you’re being judged all the time. The space we have created was made so that no one has to hide their true selves.

We even have trained support mentors that are here for you. They can chat to you in a forum, or if you want in a private chat to offer confidential support and advice when you need it most. Us humans are social creatures, and need interaction with each other to help us figure out any problems, why we feel the way we do or just to gush over the most recent trend on TikTok. Interaction can come in many forms, especially since we live so much of our lives online. An online community can make you feel less alone wherever you are in the world. It can make you find people exactly like you, who need and want to talk to people about how they’re feeling in a safe space.

Tempted? We’d love for you to join us! All you have to do is hit the button below and in a few minutes you’ll be a part of our loving, growing and non judgemental and safe community.
