5 Reasons Why You Should Embrace Who You Are

Do you always want to keep others happy? Or maybe you’re a perfectionist and find it difficult when you make a mistake, or something doesn’t go to plan.

Sadly, societal expectations mean that most of us have grown up with messages of how we should act, what we should wear, and how we should look and behave. These messages can cause us to judge ourselves.

This can get really tiring and make it difficult for us to know and embrace who we really are.

If you are sick of this and feel ready to find a way to free yourself then here are 5 reasons why you should embrace who you really are.

1) You get to make your own choices

When you embrace what you want to do, you get to do what you want rather than following societal expectations or doing what you think other people in your life want you to do.

This could range from choosing the subjects you really want to take at school, or wearing what you really want to wear to that party, to choosing to quit uni or change career. This is your life and, though others might offer advice, no one can tell you how to live it.

2) Learn to be happy

Happiness is not based on losing weight, having 500 followers, getting a first-class degree or traveling the world. When you can drop your inner critic and accept that what your parents or friends might want you to do is not making you happy you will find space to discover your smile again and do what feels rewarding for you.

3) Gain peace

When you accept yourself, you make peace with your weaknesses and you will begin to learn that no one is perfect. Perfection is impossible and pushing to achieve this is exhausting. Knowing that you’re good enough and that your vulnerabilities are part of being human will help you to gain peace, and to accept who you are.

4) You deserve better

Stop beating yourself up with negative self-talk. You are not strange, or ugly or stupid. You are you, and if you can find a way to accept that then you’ll give yourself a much easier life where you can relax and embrace who you are. Remember: the people who really matter will accept you for who you are.

5) Create deeper friendships

When you start to embrace and be more sincere with yourself it is likely that you will start to meet more genuine, loving friends instead of people who only like you for your fake persona that cares too much about what other people think. Imagine how it would be to have friends in your life that you could be truly honest with and to not have to worry so much about what they might say or think.

It’s not easy, but when you begin to embrace who you are and learn to live with, or even love, yourself, this can offer you so many positives in life.

You can do it, good luck!
